Vive Golf Club Mod
The Golf Club VR is the closest you can get to playing golf outside of being on an actual course. The only downside is that the Vive controller's shape and weight doesn't mimic a golf club very well. My solution was to create a handle that the Vive could attach to. The developers of The Golf Club VR even accommodated the use of this and other mods by adding an off-set that you can apply that lets you adjust the handle so that it is right where your hand is in real life!

I used a 1' schedule 40 PVC threaded adaptor and a cap to attach to the Vive controller through the hole and transitioned to copper pipe to get the perfect angle for the handle. The PVC elbows sold are 45 degrees and the Vive has a 60 degree angle, so you have to bend the copper 15 degrees for it to be straight.

The 1 inch PVC to 1 inch threaded adapter goes through the bottom of the hole in the Vive while the cap screws on to it on the top side of the Vive. The rough edges need to be ground down some for them to fit the controller correctly though. Grind a little and fit them together with the controller. If needed, grind some more and test the fit again. I made the threaded connector slightly smaller than needed and put electrical tape around it. I would consider that optional.

When you are happy with the fit of the cap and threaded adapter to the Vive, cut two pieces of PVC pipe. One will be 2 inches long, the other will be 3 inches long.
The Prime and glue the 1 inch threaded adapter to the 3 inch PVC pipe. Prime and glue the elbow to the other end of it. On the other end of the elbow, do the same with the 2 inch PVC pipe and the 3/4 adapter.

After about 10 minutes the glue will be dry enough that nothing will move. Attach the controller to the pipe using the cap. Screw the copper adapter on the other end. Bend the copper pipe to roughly 15 degrees. It will be easier to bend if you have at least a foot on each side of the bend. You can use a spring bender or a pipe bender with a handle. I used a spring bender and it wasn't easy. I put it between two boards and stood on it. If you try without a bender, you will probably kink the pipe.

Lay the copper pipe beside the assembly. Make sure that the angle is correct. Adjust as needed.

Mark the copper pipe at the locations shown. You will have about 3 inches on one side of the bend and 9 inches on the other side. Cut with a copper pipe cutter. Remove the copper fitting from the PVC assembly. Sand the inside of the fitting and the outside of the end of the pipe that's closest to the bend. Put flux on the parts that you sanded (I prefer petroleum based). Secure the pipe and put the adapter on the end. Please do this over a concrete floor, not carpet! Solder is hot! Heat the outside of the adapter with a propane torch. When it starts to smoke, you know it's ready for the solder. Touch the solder to the joint and it should suck right in. When it cools down, You can screw the copper assembly to the PVC assembly.
Wrap some baseball bat grip tape around the copper pipe starting at the end farthest from the controller. Wrap all the way to the threaded adapter. I added electrical tape where it ended just to make sure that it didn't come undone.

Now your ready to start swinging what actually feels more like a golf club in the game!
There are a few settings that you need to change in the game now. If you haven't already, turn on "sticky clubs" so that you don't have to hold the trigger to keep a club in your hand . Also, adjust the club offset. I found a good way to get the offset just right is to take your 2nd Vive controller and put it on the end of the club handle. When the adjustment is correct you will see the handle and the 2nd controller touching in the game.
Go through the tutorial if you haven't already. It asks which direction that you will be hitting. Try to set it so that the HMD cable will be connected behind you and you have more room space to your left and right. During play and after selecting your club, touch left on the thumb pad and the game will place the ball in the best location in your room for the chosen club for you to swing and not hit a wall. I typically still check by swinging slowly and watching where my chaperone wall is.

Enjoy!
